'A painting of the northern lights, rarely ever seen this far south in Canada, but that particular year scientists seeded the atmosphere to make them brighter. This was painted half indoors, half outdoors. I started it on my rooftop with the help of a flashlight, and frequently brought it in where I could see it better, did a touch here and there, then took it out again; then back, till it was finished. The Japanese believe that a child conceived under the Northern Lights will grow up to be intelligent: does that apply to images of them? Perhaps this would be a good thing to hang in the bedroom.'
