'This is one of my rare still lifes. They are painted from life, without the use of photograghy. They may appear to be high realism, but as you may notice, nothing is leaning, and there are no shadows. The subjects are "cleaned up", using a schematic approach. They show my collection of books, toys, art, and posters - part self portrait as a collector, part pop art, part exercises in composition. They usually include a newspaper with a current event on them. They are quite time consuming. I think of them as dozens of small painings in one. I use masking tape to get those clean lines.' |
