Thanks to Hugh Sinclair of Southwood Road, Rusthall - a long-time resident - for the copy of the wonderful picture (left) of his road some time early-ish in the last century. Click on the thumbnail for an enlargement and more about it. If anyone can add to the information we have, particularly concerning the mysterious 'milk churn', please write in. Hugh also sent the picture on the right of the long-vanished Marquee pub in the equally vanished Salisbury Road, which ran next to Gladstone Road off the High Street. Also from Hugh comes the great view on the left of Rusthall High Street before most of the building was done, looking down it from the Langton end from round about where The Oak is now.

For the picture on the right we owe thanks to Pete Hawkins. It shows the Coach Road that was once the main highway through this part of the Weald when it was all tangled forest, with the White Hart pub on the right, just beyond the shop awning. The Victorian building on the left with the little tower room was once home to what is now the Rusthall Medical Centre in Nellington lane.

Pete also supplied the next two pictures, the shot of Lower Green on the right - looking much the same as it does today except that the shop has been painted white; and the unusual and rather enchanting one of Toad Rock on the left.

Here are a couple more imaginative postcards of Toad Rock, which does have an other-worldly feel about it, especially on bright nights.

Finally for now on this page we have below a set of pictures from the 2004 calendar put together by the Rusthall Local History Group, using old postcards loaned by members of the group and people in the village. It seemed a shame to lose them when the year ended and they are presented pretty much as they appeared in the calendar, though without the columns of dates of course.
